Literature that is (finally) within reach
DNNT can make studying significantly easier, especially if you are looking for a textbook or recommended reading that is no longer available for sale, need a book that is on a long-term loan, or are working with older but still relevant Czech scholarly literature
When you are looking for a book, the easiest place to start is UKAŽ, Charles University’s central discovery service. Through UKAŽ, you can access not only titles included in DNNT, but also other digital texts.
UKAŽ: everything in one place
UKAŽ, Charles University’s central discovery service, allows you to search for printed, digitized, and electronic resources available at Charles University all at the same time. When you are looking for study materials or recommended reading, UKAŽ may direct you to an online version that you can read after logging in with your university CAS credentials.

Frequently asked questions
How do I find a book available through DNNT?
The easiest way to access digitized copies of works included in DNNT, as well as other digital texts, is via the UKAŽ central discovery service. If a work is available for online reading, you will find a link in the Availability section. The link will typically take you to one of the digital libraries or databases.
There you will see which access mode applies to the book:
|

|
Works available through DNNT are marked with a key icon. They are available for reading only after login. They cannot be printed or downloaded, and text cannot be copied from them.
|
|

|
Publicly available works are marked with an eye icon and/or the label “public”. These works are freely accessible without login because they are no longer protected by copyright. They can also be printed and downloaded.
|
|

|
Works available “in library” are marked with a building icon. These documents can be read only on terminals or computers at the location where the printed document is held. Information about the specific location is provided directly with the document.
|
You can also find digitized books through the Czech Digital Library (ČDK). Here too, individual texts are assigned access modes, i.e. different access licences.
|

|
Titles made available through DNNT are labelled „After login“ and marked with a key icon. They are for reading only and cannot be printed, downloaded, or copied.
|

|
Publicly available titles are labelled “Public” and marked with an eye icon. In addition to online reading, these documents can also be printed and downloaded.

|
Some digitized materials are labelled „in Library“ and marked with a building icon. These documents can be read only on terminals or computers at the location where the printed document is held. You can find the specific reading location by searching in the relevant digital library or by using filters in the Czech Digital Library.

How do I get access?
As with most university systems, including UKAŽ, databases, and electronic resources, you use your university CAS credentials to log in to DNNT. When you search for books available online, UKAŽ will typically redirect you to one of the digital libraries. In the digital library, click “Log in”, accept the terms of use, select “Log in with a library account / eduID”, choose “Charles University”, and log in with your CAS credentials. You may be asked to consent to the release of information.
I still cannot log in. What might be the problem?
Most likely, you do not have an active student or staff affiliation with Charles University and therefore cannot access DNNT titles. However, you can register and log in through
another participating institution.
I cannot access a book. Can you help?
You can report problems directly from UKAŽ using the “Report a Problem” button, or you can use
the contact form on the website. The issue is likely a temporary outage of one of the digital libraries. In such cases, it often helps to locate the title in another library via the
Czech Digital Library. If the search led to the wrong location, searching again in the
Czech Digital Library may also help.
The book should be available after login, but it is not. I see the “In library” licence and cannot log in. What should I do?
The book may have been removed from DNNT, typically due to a publisher’s decision, a reprint, or a new edition. It may take some time for this update to propagate across all systems (see the
list of removed works). Alternatively, the issue may be on the side of the library that digitized the document. Verify the availability by searching in the
Czech Digital Library.
Can I download or print the entire book? Another book had the icons, but here they have disappeared.
Titles with a DNNT licence or DNNT availability cannot be downloaded as PDFs or printed. They are intended for online reading only. Download and print icons appear in digital libraries only for books with “ „
Public“availability, marked with an eye icon

. Only these books can be downloaded or printed.
Why does UKAŽ show “Access content in National Library of the Czech Republic” even though the document comes from another Czech digital library?
This is because the National Library of the Czech Republic concludes licence agreements with copyright collective management organisations and assumes responsibility for compliance with the licence terms, regardless of which digital library provides the document.
After searching in UKAŽ, I cannot access some books in the Digital Library of Charles University. Why?
In this case, the book is not available through DNNT. It is provided under the “Reading Room” licence, so it can be viewed only in
participating Charles University libraries. In UKAŽ, these books include the note: “Available only from some reading rooms, more information after opening the link.”
