Prague public transport tips

As you will need to move around the city during the Staff Training Week, I would like to share information about Prague’s public transport and tips for a better orientation.

Prague has an extensive and reliable public transport network, including the metro, trams, buses, and trolleybuses. Throughout the Staff Training Week, we recommend using public transport, as it provides convenient access to all programme locations.

General information and transport network maps can be found on the PID website.

How do you find a connection?

Use the website of Prague Integrated Transport, “PID”, and search for the connection you need: https://pid.cz/en/.

I also recommend downloading their mobile application, where you can search for all connections and departures, as well as manage ticket purchases. You can find more information on the website.

The app is available on Google Play and the App Store.

Validating the ticket

To use a ticket, it must be validated – it must have the start of validity and fare zone printed on it. Tickets sold on board of vehicles, touchscreen terminals and railway ticket counters are valid immediately from the moment of purchase and you don’t have to do anything else with them.

Tickets sold from ticket machines, information centres and ticket offices must be validated on entering the vehicle or the subway paid area! The subway paid area is commonly marked by a white line on the ground and accompanied by stamping validation machines.

Tickets must be validated (stamped) exactly once, on the first use, otherwise the ticket is invalid!

Electronic tickets: If you purchase your ticket through the PID Lítačka app, remember to activate it at least one minute before boarding. The ticket becomes valid one minute after activation, and boarding before it is valid may result in a fine during a ticket inspection.
