Today, the libraries of Charles University started operating in the new library platform Alma. It also includes a new form of the discovery service UKAŽ (ukaz.cuni.cz/en), which replaces and unifies the functions of the original library catalogue (CKIS), the SFX link server and the Ebsco Discovery Service.
The launch of the Alma platform and the new UKAŽ was preceded by thorough preparation both at the Central Library and in the individual sub-libraries, whose staff trained during the summer. We would like to thank all colleagues from the sub-libraries for their cooperation and wish them well used in the new system. No small credit also belongs to our colleagues from the Computer Science Centre as well as the Public Procurement Department who have contributed significantly to the successful selection of the new platform.
How does the new UKAŽ work?
The new form of the discovery service, in addition to searching printed, electronic and digital information sources from the collections of Charles University, also allows direct management of your user account. It is therefore no longer necessary to use a separate library catalogue for monitoring and renewing loans and making requests (item reservations) – everything is available in one place, under a single account, via one online registration. The new UKAŽ also includes the option to save the found records for later, export citations via the citace.com manager, set regular alerts on topics that interest you, etc.
You can find more information and instructions for using the search engine on a separate page.
